A new group of purpose formed through a desire to see God's righteousness upheld in our nation

“What’s the church doing about it?” is a familiar cry in our house. Every day, without fail, my husband asks this question. Every time there is something on

the news that is unjust or unrighteous, the question is thrown at me.

So, "What ARE you doing about it, Church?"

God challenged me at the start of this year about getting off my blessed

sit-upon and doing something in order for His voice to be heard. For

far too long the church has been silent on a number of issues, issues that

affect the church, the local community and the nation.

For fear of becoming unpopular the church has, in the main, stayed quiet. And I believe that God wants to be heard through His church, which really means for US to speak out. So I, along with Linda Davies, Andy Duffield and Nick Webber, have started a group whose sole purpose is to let God’s voice be heard. Gatekeepers.

Whenever we hear of any injustice or unrighteousness in our city or nation, we put pen to paper and write to ‘the powers that be’, voicing our concerns. For example, there is a plan to build a ‘mega’ mosque in the Newham area of London (which is where the Olympic site is being built). This mosque would be bigger than any other mosque in this country housing around 10,000 people, right in the middle of the Olympic village!! The building of this mosque is partly funded by an organisation which is known in France as having terrorist links!! In this present day of terrorist attacks, where is the Government’s sense of security?! So a letter was sent to an MP on behalf of our group voicing our concerns, and the report back was that Newham City Council have not yet given it the go-ahead yet, but they will take our concerns into account when they finally make a decision. The more people that do the same, the more they would sit up and take notice of us.

We have also sent a letter to Manchester Cathedral to support their fight against Sony Corporation about the violent video game which features pictures of the inside of the Cathedral.  (If you don’t already know about this story, then consult your local papers!).

There are a number of other issues that we plan to take serious action on. These will  become known to all of you at the appropriate time. We would like a lot of you to help us and get involved in our cause. So, what can you do?....

Firstly, look out for anything in your community, or your city, that you think is not right, and let us know about it. Bring us all the details you can about it and leave the rest to us. Now, we are not talking about your next door neighbour having two bins and you only having one! This is serious Kingdom business we are doing. It has to be something that is unrighteous and unfair and not inline with God’s Word.

Also, we need people who are willing to write to their MP’s, Councillors etc. The more people that write, the more chance we have of getting things accomplished.  Don’t worry if you don’t know how to go about writing letters to MP’s or Councillors, we have the technologies to help you!

From time to time, there will be items on this page for you to pray about and write about. Keep a lookout for these and for updates in the Connect magazine. Please, please do get involved with us. We have been told to invade the Market Place and that is what we are doing. A seed that was planted in my heart a long time ago already has it’s first green shoot. What about your seed?

Pastor Tony recently talked about us having an assignment, task and a  work - could this be yours. Talk to us.

We are ‘Gatekeepers’ because we have decided to stand and keep watch on the gates of this fine city of Manchester, and also on the gates of the United Kingdom.  God led me to the scripture in 1 Chronicles 9 v 26-27: “For in this trusted office were four chief gatekeepers; they were Levites. And they had charge over the chambers and treasuries of the house of God. And they lodged all around the house of God because they had the responsibility, and they were in charge of opening it every morning.”  (New King James version).

Gatekeepers have a responsibility to guard the gates and to watch out for things coming into the city, and into the house of God. If you have eyes to see and ears to hear, then you will know that this is the time for the church to stand up and let God’s voice be heard.

Come on, church, let’s all get together and stop the question “What’s the church doing about it?”
