Bad news for monks. Good news for the rest of us.

Some people believe that "being good" throughout life will somehow earn a place with The Daddy after they die. Many believe that if they live a reasonable life and don't annoy too many people that it's enough to get "up there". A few people even believe that if they cut themselves off from the rest of the world by joining a convent that God will be pleased.

In fact, eternal security is a FREE GIFT and none of the above will make a difference on its own. Drug dealers and pimps are just as entitled to it as everyone else. To get this FREE GIFT (access to God's VIP, which the ancients referred to as Heaven or Paradise) all we need to do is be cool with God. That means asking God to forgive us for the bad stuff we've done, not doing it anymore and allowing God to have full control in our life. Moreover, it means accepting Jesus' death to pay for our shortcomings. We call it the VIP because if your name's not down, you're not coming in.

The Bible tells us that there's a VIP list and everyone who's name is on it will live for ever with God. The good news is, it's not what you know - it's who you know. So if you know Jesus (that is, you have a personal relationship with Him) then you're on God's VIP list, which is called the Book of Life. When your name is in this book, we call that "being saved" because your eternal life with God is secure.
